1. What is UPP (Uttar Pradesh Police)?

The Uttar Pradesh Police is the state law enforcement agency for the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the largest police forces in the world. The UPP handles various roles, such as maintaining law and order, controlling criminal activities, and investigating crimes.

There are several positions in the Uttar Pradesh Police, such as:

  • Constable

2. What is UPSI (Uttar Pradesh Sub-Inspector)?

The UPSI (Uttar Pradesh Sub-Inspector) is a Group B post in the Uttar Pradesh Police Department. Sub-Inspectors hold a supervisory role in police stations and are responsible for maintaining law and order, conducting investigations, making arrests, and ensuring proper case documentation.

Sub-Inspector is the entry-level officer position in the Uttar Pradesh Police Department that requires graduation. SI candidates must clear a competitive examination to qualify for the role.

3. UPSI and UPP Recruitment Exams Overview

The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) is responsible for conducting the recruitment exams for both UP Police Constable and Sub-Inspector (SI) positions. Recruitment is done through a competitive written examination, followed by physical tests and document verification.

4. Eligibility Criteria for UPSI and UPP

(a) Educational Qualification

  • For UPSI (Sub-Inspector):
    • Graduation in any discipline from a recognized university is mandatory.
  • For UPP (Constable):
    • Candidates must have passed Class 12 (Intermediate) from a recognized board.

(b) Age Limit

  • UPSI:
    • General Category: 21 to 28 years.
    • OBC/SC/ST Categories: Relaxation of up to 5 years.
  • UPP (Constable):
    • General Category: 18 to 23 years.
    • OBC/SC/ST Categories: Relaxation of up to 5 years.

(c) Physical Standards

  • UPSI (Male Candidates):
    • Height: 168 cm (Gen/OBC/SC), 160 cm (ST)
    • Chest: 79-84 cm (Gen/OBC/SC), 77-82 cm (ST)
  • UPSI (Female Candidates):
    • Height: 152 cm (Gen/OBC/SC), 147 cm (ST)
  • UPP (Constable):
    • Similar physical standards are applicable, though specific requirements vary based on gender and category.

5. UPSI Recruitment Process

The recruitment process for UPSI includes several stages:

(a) Written Examination

  • The first stage of the recruitment process is a computer-based test (CBT).

(b) Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

  • Candidates who qualify for the written exam must undergo a Physical Efficiency Test (PET), which tests their endurance and physical fitness.

(c) Document Verification and Physical Measurement Test (PMT)

  • Candidates must provide their original documents and meet the required physical standards (height, chest measurement, etc.).

(d) Medical Examination

  • A thorough medical examination is conducted to ensure that candidates are physically fit for the job.

6. UPSI Exam Pattern

The UPSI exam consists of a computer-based objective test. The exam pattern is as follows:

7. Syllabus for UPSI Exam

The syllabus for the UPSI exam covers four main subjects:

(a) General Hindi

  • Grammar: Sandhi, Samas, Antonyms, Synonyms, One-word substitution.
  • Vocabulary: Usage of words, idioms, and phrases.
  • Comprehension: Reading comprehension.

(b) General Knowledge

  • Indian Constitution: Rights and duties, Political system.
  • History, Geography, and Economy of India.
  • Science & Technology.
  • Current Affairs: National and international events.

(c) Numerical and Mental Ability

  • Arithmetic: Simplification, Percentages, Profit & Loss, Average, Interest.
  • Algebra: Basic algebraic expressions.
  • Mental Ability: Blood relations, coding-decoding, analogies, series completion.

(d) Mental Aptitude, Intelligence, and Reasoning

  • Logical Reasoning: Statements and assumptions, syllogisms.
  • Mental Aptitude: Law and order, crime control, police system.
  • Decision Making: Analytical thinking, problem-solving skills.

8. UPP Constable Exam Pattern

The UP Police Constable exam is also conducted as an objective-type exam. The pattern is as follows:

9. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Measurement Test (PMT)

(a) Physical Efficiency Test (PET):

The PET tests a candidate’s endurance. It involves running, and the criteria differ for men and women.

  • Male Candidates: 4.8 km run in 25 minutes.
  • Female Candidates: 2.4 km run in 14 minutes.

(b) Physical Measurement Test (PMT):

Candidates are measured for height, chest (for males), and weight (for females). These measurements must meet the minimum standards as per category and gender.

10. Job Roles and Responsibilities of UPSI

The UP Sub-Inspector (SI) is responsible for various roles, such as:

  • Maintaining law and order within their assigned jurisdiction.
  • Investigating crimes such as theft, assault, and murder.
  • Filing FIRs and supervising constables.
  • Conducting arrests and ensuring proper custody of suspects.
  • Managing the daily administrative work of police stations.
  • Ensuring community safety and handling public grievances.

The role of an SI is both supervisory and field-based, often dealing with complex law enforcement tasks.

11. Salary and Benefits of UPSI and UPP

(a) UPSI Salary:

  • Pay Scale: ₹9,300 to ₹34,800 (Level 6 of 7th Pay Commission).
  • Grade Pay: ₹4,200.
  • In-hand Salary: ₹35,000 to ₹45,000 (approx), depending on allowances (HRA, DA, TA, etc.).

(b) UP Police Constable Salary:

  • Pay Scale: ₹21,700 to ₹69,100 (Level 3 of 7th Pay Commission).
  • In-hand Salary: ₹25,000 to ₹30,000 (approx), depending on allowances.
